Roma: Reding investigates, Romania cooperates with France

The European Commission is analyzing the french situation, after the country has started expelling people of mostly Roma origin to their home countries, mostly to Romania. The Romanian authorities however do not claim injustice, but cooperate with their French colleagues.

The US supports European Roma policy

Supporting the integration of Roma is high on the foreign policy agenda of the Obama cabinet, US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton told the Hungarian news agency MTI. The participants of the Roma Symposium in New York emphasized the need of cooperation and the change of best practices among the several minority groups.

Will there be a Hungary vs. Slovakia case?

The government announced on Tuesday (13th October) it would make a complaint to the European Commission against Slovakia. Hungary presumes that our northern neighbor violated the EU principle concerning the free movement between member states. The government spokesperson highlighted that the measure had no hostile intentions.

Fico and Bajnai choose judge

"Both countries accept the recommendations of OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities [concerning the language law in Slovakia)" - announced PM Gordon Bajnai after the meeting with his slovakian counterpart Robert Fico.

Hungary and Slovakia discussed in Stockholm

On the weekend, foreign ministers have met informally in Stockholm. The "Gymnich" meeting focused on the Middle East Peace Process and the follow up of the Afghan elections, but also Slovak-Hungarian Relations have beet put on the table.

Legal expert: No never-never land with Lisbon Treaty

Ivo Šlosarčík is a lecturer of European and international law at Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles Univesity, and New York University in Prague. He is an expert on legal issues of European integration, judicial and police cooperation in the EU, and Czech reform of civil service and judiciary. He participated in the seminar on the ways how to influence European legislation in the new legislative framework after the Lisbon Treaty organised by the Institute for European Policy Europeum.
