Hungary says Slovak law breaches EU norms

Hungary's prime minister said on Wednesday that Slovak legislation punishing the use of minority languages is unacceptable and goes against the basic values of the European Union and the Lisbon Treaty.

Lithuanian MEP lodged a complaint

Lithuanian MEP Waldemar Tomaszewski from the Action Committee of the Polish in Lithuania, has complained to the EC President Barroso over the alleged discrimination of Poles in the Baltic country.

Kindergarden for Roma children

Roma children in Poznan should have separate groups in kindergardens. The proposal, which should have convinced more Roma parents to send their children to kindergardens is being heavily criticised for strenghtening the ghettoisation of Roma minority.

Legal expert: No never-never land with Lisbon Treaty

Ivo Šlosarčík is a lecturer of European and international law at Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles Univesity, and New York University in Prague. He is an expert on legal issues of European integration, judicial and police cooperation in the EU, and Czech reform of civil service and judiciary. He participated in the seminar on the ways how to influence European legislation in the new legislative framework after the Lisbon Treaty organised by the Institute for European Policy Europeum.
