Ministry prepares recommendations how to speed up support from EU funds

Nicholas Martyn, director general of regional department at the European Commission recommended Czech Republic to apply for more infrastructure projects to speed up drawing of EU money. But the ministry for transport said it is the Commission who should speed up as it is responsible for late payments for transport projects.

Territorial development policy agreed to NGOs disappointment

Czech government appproved a strategic document Territorial Development Policy 2008 outlining where the important strategic projects could be built. But green groups protests claim the document gives a green light to controversial highways such as a disputed connection between South Moravia and Wien expected to be funded partly from TEN-T budget.

MEPs want a strategy for Danube region, Czech Republic also to take part

European Parliament asked European Commission to prepare special European Strategy for Danube region. Strategy, where Czech Republic is also expected to take part would bring better coordination and coordination in spatial planning including development of transport interconnections.

Czech Republic promised to get money for higway connection with Poland

European Commission approved funding for 18 transport project from European economic recovery plan. It is expected the budget for TEN-T projects would raise by 500 million euros. Funding for the highway connection between Bohumín and cities in Poland will be a part of the package.

Legal expert: No never-never land with Lisbon Treaty

Ivo Šlosarčík is a lecturer of European and international law at Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles Univesity, and New York University in Prague. He is an expert on legal issues of European integration, judicial and police cooperation in the EU, and Czech reform of civil service and judiciary. He participated in the seminar on the ways how to influence European legislation in the new legislative framework after the Lisbon Treaty organised by the Institute for European Policy Europeum.
