Start with your budget reforms, Commission says

European Commission warned countries that massive growth of public deficits and ageing populations may seriously shake their treasuries. European executive says that the time to adopt significant cuts in public budgets has come. Commission also estimates, that without any changes in its pension system Czech Republic´s budget may be short of 6% GDP in the future.

EU to address alternative funds abroad. Should we fear losing our pension?

Swedish Presidency wants to restrict activities of both European and foreign private funds. The proposal is to complemented by the new rules on regulation of funds currently considered by the Commission. But the industry sees the initiative of the European executive as unacceptable and says that the new rules will lower their returns and consequently also retirement pensions.

Legal expert: No never-never land with Lisbon Treaty

Ivo Šlosarčík is a lecturer of European and international law at Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles Univesity, and New York University in Prague. He is an expert on legal issues of European integration, judicial and police cooperation in the EU, and Czech reform of civil service and judiciary. He participated in the seminar on the ways how to influence European legislation in the new legislative framework after the Lisbon Treaty organised by the Institute for European Policy Europeum.
